P.L.I.D.A. - Approach adopted and choosing levels
THE P.L.I.D.A. CERTIFICATE
"PROGETTO LINGUA ITALIANA DANTE ALIGHIERI

The Rome Branch of Dante Alighieri Society is an Official Centre of examination for the issue of certification P.L.I.D.A. (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri).
The PLIDA certificate is an official diploma issued by the Dante Alighieri Society by a formal agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (n. 1903 of Nov. 4, 1993) and with the scientific approval of the University “La Sapienza” of Rome (June 29, 2004). PLIDA is also recognized by the Ministry of Employment and Welfare (decree of October 18, 2002) and by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (February 11, 2004).

THE PLIDA CERTIFICATION A2 FOR RESIDENCE PERMIT
With the Ministry of the Interior decree of 4 June 2010, all foreigners willing to obtain a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) should d emonstrate their knowledge of Italian language: the person showing a Plida Certificate level A2 (B1, B2 …), is exempt from language texts organized by the Prefectures.
 APPROACH ADOPTED
The tests for examinations are built on the principles of the communicative approach and are based on real life tasks that require the use of the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. The communicative situations presented in the tests are graded on a progressive scale of difficulty: contexts ranging from everyday life to professional settings of higher qualification.
 CHOOSING LEVELS
To register for an examination, it is not necessary to have passed the previous levels. Each candidate chooses the level of Italian for which he thinks he is qualified, and can enter for more than one level at the same time if he wishes.
